If you have an overbite, underbite or another malocclusion, you’ll need to see an experienced Greenpoint orthodontist like ours at Rosenberg Orthodontics to discuss your orthodontic treatment options. In the past, traditional metal braces were the only option. Fortunately, today, clear braces are now available as an alternative to traditional braces.

Traditional metal braces and clear braces both have been proven effective in treating many orthodontic problems. However, they each have their share of advantages and disadvantages and they will not be right for everyone. The right braces for patients will vary depending on certain individual factors such as their orthodontic needs and personal preference. This decision needs to be made on an individual basis. Each individual patient will need to have an evaluation and consultation with an experienced Greenpoint orthodontist in order to decide the type of braces that would best suit his or her situation. Conventional metal braces are the most common type of braces offered. Metal braces are made of stainless steel and straighten the teeth using metal brackets and arch wires. They have been around the longest and therefore, they have a long history & a proven track record of successfully correcting many orthodontic issues. However, they aren’t the best choice if you care about comfort and aesthetics. Since they consist of metal brackets and wires that are very obvious, many people consider them to be an eyesore. Also, the metal brackets and wires are very uncomfortable; although they’re more comfortable than they were in the past. Clear braces offer the aesthetic benefits and the comfort that conventional braces lack. Clear braces such as Invisalign, are much more attractive because they are virtually invisible. If aesthetics is a top priority, they are the best choice. Also, because they don’t contain uncomfortable metal brackets and wires, but instead are made of clear plastic aligners, they’re much more comfortable.

Clear braces not only do as good a job as metal braces, but they have advantages in terms of aesthetics, comfort, and ease of use. Here at Rosenberg Orthodontics, we are proud to offer both metal braces and our Greenpoint clear braces, so you can make the decision that is most suitable for you.

Metal braces have been around for a long time. In fact, they date back to pretty much the very beginning of orthodontics. In that time, they have undergone a variety of changes. The ones you get today are more streamlined, lightweight, and stylish than ever before. It’s true, though, that are certain limitations that simply cannot be bypassed. No matter how attractive metal braces can be, if you don’t want anyone to know you’re wearing any at all, you’ll need clear braces. Furthermore, metal can lead to soreness or irritation of your mouth, especially during the crucial early stages of wearing them. Metal braces are also fixed. Once they are put on, they stay on. If you or your child may feel tempted to take out our Greenpoint clear braces, though, then being fixed may not be a disadvantage at all. It all depends on your unique circumstances. For those who are disciplined to wear them when they’re supposed to, however, going with our Greenpoint clear braces means you remove them to eat, brush, and floss. You won’t have any frustrating food restrictions, like you would with metal braces. And oral hygiene if easier and more efficient without braces in your mouth when you do it.

For the majority of patients, Greenpoint clear braces will be a beneficial alternative to metal braces, and one for which you can be qualified for easily. Metal braces still do an outstanding job, and might be more cost-effective. The best thing to do is contact our office to schedule a consultation, where you can determine the right selection for you.

If you are thinking about getting braces to improve the look or function of your or your child’s smile, you will want to come to see us at Rosenberg Orthodontics. Our top-notch Greenpoint orthodontist, Dr. Phillip E. Rosenberg, will provide you and your child with the very best orthodontic care, as well as discuss whether treatment with clear or metal braces will work best.

Many people enjoy having their smile treated with clear braces, because it means they can receive orthodontic care without being embarrassed by being seen wearing metal wires and brackets on their teeth. At our orthodontic practice, our Greenpoint orthodontist uses Invisalign invisible braces when providing treatment with clear braces. Clear braces have several different advantages over metal braces. However, not everyone is a good candidate for treatment with clear braces because they may have a bite problem that cannot be corrected with the use of clear plastic aligners. Our orthodontist will evaluate your particular bite situation and let you know whether you are a better candidate for clear or metal braces. Treatment with clear braces takes about the same amount of time as treatment with traditional metal braces. However, our patients are able to eat anything they want during the entire treatment time with clear braces because the clear plastic aligners are removed during meals. Our patients also find that the clear braces are extremely comfortable to wear since they do not contain any metal parts. Also, you will probably need fewer trips to our orthodontic office when you wear clear braces, as the braces will not need to be adjusted. However, treatment with traditional metal braces will most likely cost less. In addition, just about all bite problems can be treated with traditional metal braces.
