If you have an overbite, underbite or another malocclusion, you’ll need to see an experienced Greenpoint orthodontist like ours at Rosenberg Orthodontics to discuss your orthodontic treatment options. In the past, traditional metal braces were the only option. Fortunately, today, clear braces are now available as an alternative to traditional braces.

Traditional metal braces and clear braces both have been proven effective in treating many orthodontic problems. However, they each have their share of advantages and disadvantages and they will not be right for everyone. The right braces for patients will vary depending on certain individual factors such as their orthodontic needs and personal preference. This decision needs to be made on an individual basis. Each individual patient will need to have an evaluation and consultation with an experienced Greenpoint orthodontist in order to decide the type of braces that would best suit his or her situation. Conventional metal braces are the most common type of braces offered. Metal braces are made of stainless steel and straighten the teeth using metal brackets and arch wires. They have been around the longest and therefore, they have a long history & a proven track record of successfully correcting many orthodontic issues. However, they aren’t the best choice if you care about comfort and aesthetics. Since they consist of metal brackets and wires that are very obvious, many people consider them to be an eyesore. Also, the metal brackets and wires are very uncomfortable; although they’re more comfortable than they were in the past. Clear braces offer the aesthetic benefits and the comfort that conventional braces lack. Clear braces such as Invisalign, are much more attractive because they are virtually invisible. If aesthetics is a top priority, they are the best choice. Also, because they don’t contain uncomfortable metal brackets and wires, but instead are made of clear plastic aligners, they’re much more comfortable.
