Many people are born with an imperfect smile, and while there is nothing inherently wrong with that, if a smile is crooked or the bite is uneven, you may need to undergo orthodontic treatment. Sure, this procedure will alter the cosmetic appearance of your teeth, but the root reason is to help improve your overall dental health. With the help of our Williamsburg orthodontist, you can explore what different types of braces we offer here at Rosenberg Orthodontics and which method might work best when it comes to meeting your needs, your expectations and your preferences as well.

There are several common types of braces and the kind that you are eligible for will usually depend on how much you need to have done and the nature of the dental work that needs to be completed. Some malocclusions or serious bite problems make themselves apparent during early childhood, in which case interceptive orthodontics may need to be implemented. Interceptive orthodontics, or pediatric braces, are prescribed for children while they still have their baby teeth. While this is not a usual practice, employing some form of orthodontic appliance as early on as possible can help lessen the amount of work that may need to be completed later on, especially if it is expected to be intensive. Here at Rosenberg Orthodontics, our Williamsburg orthodontist can also provide patients with traditional braces or Invisalign clear braces once their permanent teeth have erupted and come in. Traditional braces use metal brackets and wires in order to guide teeth into a more favorable formation that will promote good overall dental health. Invisible braces or Invisalign also guides your teeth slowly over time but uses clear aligner trays in order to do so instead. Each of these methods offers different pros and cons and one may better suit your needs and your preferences over the other, which is something that Dr. Rosenberg is here to help you with.

When it comes to correcting bites and straightening smiles, orthodontic treatment is the way to go. Call us here at Rosenberg Orthodontics to learn more about what different types of braces we offer and to learn when you may be able to set up an appointment with our Williamsburg orthodontist, Dr. Rosenberg.

There are few things more satisfying that getting yours or your child’s teeth straightened and properly aligned and at Rosenberg Orthodontics, that is just what our practice is dedicated to doing. But sometimes it might seem as if orthodontic treatments take a very long time to reach the desired goal. It’s not always easy to have patience in such situations, particularly when it requires wearing braces or another orthodontic device day after day. What’s most important, however, is that our Williamsburg orthodontic treatment do the job we set out for it and that means the entire job, not just a simple cosmetic improvement.

A person first comes in because of a concern with appearance, but the underlying issue is about teeth that may be overcrowded, crooked, or improperly spaced. It may also be about jaws that are not aligned as they should be. Our Williamsburg orthodontic treatment is designed to be a complete solution, not a partial one. This means that at the conclusion of it, your child or you will have jaws that are coordinated with each other and an even bite. If we simply focused on a better appearance, perhaps treatment could be accelerated, but what good does that do if the root of the problem still exists? Furthermore, without ideal positioning of both teeth and jaws, it is likely that the progress made would deteriorate over time, making the treatment wasteful. We don’t want that and we know that you certainly don’t want that. Certainly, retainers serve a very useful purpose in maintaining the results achieved through wearing braces, but without a sturdy foundation, it won’t last long term. Also, don’t be fooled by the trend of aligning only the top front teeth. Again, a temporary cosmetic fix may feel good today, but it will not feel that way later on.

So while it may be frustrating at first to hear that our Williamsburg orthodontic treatment will take more time than you had hoped at first, be assured that the reasons are due to our commitment to providing not just a mouth that looks good, but one that is strong and healthy both now or in the future.

It is not common for brackets to become loose, but it does happen from time to time. Although our Williamsburg Brooklyn orthodontist makes sure that your brackets are bonded securely, eating certain foods that are particularly crunchy or even sticky can lead to the brackets becoming loose. If you do notice it, there is no need to panic but you should most definitely call our office right away. It will be necessary for Dr. Rosenberg to take a look at the problem and determine a solution so that your bracket is once again stable and properly fitted. If you cannot make it in person right away, we may be able to give you some guidance over the phone to make a temporary adjustment on your own, but it is still advisable to be examined as quickly as possible. Similarly, if you lose your bracket, it is vital to come in and have it replaced.

Your ligatures can also work their way loose from the cumulative effects of chewing. When this happens, you will typically notice some discomfort or irritation. In this case, you should be able to guide the wire back into place using a Q-tip. This will push it flat against your tooth in most cases and relieve the problem. If it does not, using some relief wax between your braces and the irritated area should help. It is still recommended that our Williamsburg Brooklyn orthodontist examine you to determine if the wire needs to be replaced or not. Though this doesn’t need to be done immediately, you should schedule an appointment to have it addressed. Either way, make us your first call when you are dealing with an orthodontic emergency.
